5S to Productivity

Last month, we kicked off our effort to improve productivity at the office by conducting a series of seminars on 5S.

Today, July 2, 2010, we conducted the first monthly 5S audit and DFI.grow's Marivic de Castro, our 5S champion, proudly announced that most employees passed.

5S is a systematic program to achieve safety, cleanliness, organization and standardization in the workplace. It stands for five Japanese words: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke. These words roughly translate to sort, straighten (or set to order), shine (or sweep / systematic cleaning), standardize, and sustain.

The effectiveness of 5S was instantly demonstrated in our headquarters. One fine Monday in June, everyone just walked into an entirely different office. Our work atmosphere is vastly improved and we have no doubt that productivity has been enhanced.

What fine employees we have!


Three of our employees once again prove that the Meatworld brand of customer service is beyond compare.

SM Hypermarket Las Pinas Branch commended our butchers Alejandro Guevarra and Vinson Estiller for exemplary performance and customer service, helping the outlet achieve the target set by the store for the months of March and May 2010. Our pretty merchandiser, Analyn Mae Areno, was also given the same award.

We are honored to have in the Meatworld family such exemplary employees. Keep up the great work, guys!

DBA and Rona at Shanghai Expo


No less than our President and CEO, Dennis B. Alcoreza, and our Purchasing Manager, Rona Vedrero visited Shanghai in search of cutting edge products and technologies that will keep Meatworld at the forefront of the meat retailing industry in the Philippines.

Expo 2010 Shanghai China, Shanghai World Expo for short, is the largest World Fair site ever. Present there are more than 190 countries and over 50 international organizations. Up to 100 million visitors are expected during its May to October 2010 run, which would make it the most visited expo in history.

DBA and Rona braved the long queues and depressing rains to check out new trends and spot opportunities. They are now back in Manila, awed by what the future holds for us and even more inspired to lead us to our glorious Meatworld destiny.

Japanese food for you and me. Hai!


Friday, June 18, 2010 was a red-letter day at Meatworld's Cutting Edge Hall.

Employees from various departments witnessed a cooking demonstration by Ms. Marivic de Castro of DFI.grow.

Being the first in the series, the demonstration showcased something special-- Japanese food!

Ms. Marivic showed our would-be chefs how easy it is to prepare simple Japanese fares. Her sushi and sukiyaki indeed were prepared with no sweat. And of course, using Mrs. Garcia's meat, they were ready in no time at all.

For Meatworld to be true to its name, all employees must experience the thousands of ways by which meat can delight our palate. Thus, through DFI.grow, the HR Department intends to conduct a bi-monthly cooking demo featuring different beef and pork recipes from around the globe.

Shall we say 'bon appetit' or 'buon appetito' the next time around? You won't know if you aren't there!
